An Except from Junior's Dragon
Finally, Halloween! Junior puts on his dragon suit. He and his mom are ready to go. He skips up and down, up and down, then runs ahead, forgetting to hold her hand. As he crosses the street, a car hits him with a loud thump! Then his body falls whump down onto the street. When he wakes up, it’s dark. “I can’t move. I’m scared. Where am I? I want my mommy! I hear voices.
“Did you know that Junior can hear you talking to him while he is in a coma?” a nurse says.
“I didn’t know he could hear me talk to him. It makes me feel like he will get well one day. My little boy loved dressing up in his best suit for church. I loved watching him ride his skateboard in his dragon suit on the sidewalk at home. Every night we would sit in our cozy chair as I read to him, “The Little Dragon Who Could.” Junior always liked it when I cut the crust off his peanut butter and jelly sandwich every day.”
Her voice faded off as Junior remembered falling to the street, men putting him into an ambulance, and Mom holding his hand.
Junior hears Pastor Jones say to his mom, “Your boy will wake up from this coma because God wants to heal him. Just trust him. Our prayer group is praying for him.”
At church Junior liked his pastor pat his shoulder and shaking his hand. It makes him feel special.
Junior feels his mom’s, warm hand on his cheek as she says, “Son, I love you.” Then he listens to dragon’s birth in their favorite story, “The Little Dragon Who Could.”
